Texas to enact a “Ride Sober” campaign for Labor Day

On Behalf of | Sep 3, 2020 | Uncategorized |

In an attempt to reduce the number of highway accidents near the Labor Day holiday, a campaign in Texas called “Ride Sober or Get Pulled over” runs from August 19 to September 7. This campaign aims to disperse information about the risks of driving while intoxicated. Motorcyclists are typically the highest at risk, with motorcyclists composing a quarter of all roadside fatalities.

Nearly 40% of motorcyclists who were involved in single-vehicle accidents were driving under the influence of alcohol. As a result, the campaign aims to remind people to never drink and ride. If they plan on drinking alcohol, they should choose a designated driver who can get them home safely. Additionally, motorcyclists should be extremely cautious on the road as motorcycles tend to be invisible within most drivers’ blind spots. For motorcyclists, risking a DWI charge can be a matter of life or death. They’re more vulnerable on the road and much more likely to die or face serious injury in a car accident.

During this campaign, the police force will enact a zero-tolerance policy for drunk driving. There will be an increased number of officers on the road who will be quick to stop anyone who appears to be driving while impaired.

How to proceed after a DWI charge

An individual who’s charged with a DWI might wish to speak with an attorney. Without an attorney, the individual might be facing hefty penalties, including massive fines and jail time. The issue is compounded if the individual refuses to take a breathalyzer test or has children in the vehicle at the time of the arrest. Working with an attorney, a client might be able to have the charges reduced or dropped altogether. They might also be able to avoid having their license suspended or their vehicle confiscated.
